The Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO is currently organising training for museum specialists from Bulgaria which aims to enrich their skills and knowledge related to the documentation of living heritage. The training assessed the needs of the museum professionals and their motivation was mostly related to the following areas:
- Enrichment of management practices in institutions related to the safeguarding and popularization of intangible cultural heritage;
- The use of communication strategies in view to exchange experience and information between institutions working in the field of intangible cultural heritage;
- Acquisition of new skills in the process of digitization, digital systematization and presentation of intangible cultural heritage;
- Opportunity for developing interactive methods for presenting and promoting the intangible cultural heritage to a wider range of social groups, through the prism of the ethnopsychology of a community.
I was pleased to present some of the work done within DISTILL on innovation in cultural institutions. The feedback from the participants showed a good level of engagement with the documentation and popularisation of intangible heritage but there is definitely a scope to collaborate and develop more initiatives.
